Here’s a few smiling moments from one of our recent tutoring sessions! ☺️😇🙂 Every Monday and Wednesday, our students are paired with a tutor for one-on-one skill building for reading. They begin their time with an individualized reading lesson on their Chromebook. Then, they work with their tutor to build reading fluency/comprehension through either reading buddies, personalized skill-building lessons, or homework help. We implement a program called i-Ready as a tool to determine how to best meet each student’s academic needs. Having tutors work side-by-side with the students helps build relationships while strengthening reading skills. Imagine this: after years of dreaming, planning, and relentless determination, we finally took the step and made something unbelievable happen last weekend. We rolled up our sleeves and began laying the groundwork for something truly special: the basketball court at Wallace Woods. None of this would’ve been possible without the incredible support from @insight_global, @basesix, @glceast, and our Neighborhood Hope donors. As we took backboard up the ladder, we felt a surge of emotion sweep through the community. Families gathered around, disbelief written on their faces, uttering phrases like, ‘I can’t believe this is happening. But it was real. It was happening right before our eyes. And yet, amidst the excitement, we know this is merely the beginning to a much greater story. Like the Apostle Paul’s unwavering faith in his journey, we too hold onto the belief that what has been started here will be brought to a hopeful finish. Our most recent connect night was something truly special. Our team loaded up the van with 25 hygiene baskets packed full of essentials like toothpaste, cleaning goodies, toilet paper, and more. As we handed them out to families in Meadow Oaks, their reactions were priceless. One mom even shared, “I was literally on my way to scrape together my last 10 bucks for toilet paper when I saw you guys...” Her grateful hug and heartfelt thanks spoke volumes. Here’s some good news from @liabush619 our Tutoring Initiative Coordinator : “Our tutoring program has continued to provide educational support to under-served students in East Charlotte. We have 30 students who are on the roster for our tutoring program and on average, we have 97% attendance weekly. Our scholars are averaging 30 minutes of iReady work weekly, which provides individualized literacy instruction. In addition, students are reading on-level books an average of 40 - 50 minutes per week with the guidance of their tutors. Last Thursday, Neighborhood Hope had the incredible opportunity to partner with the amazing organization SERHANT here in Charlotte for their first annual SERHANT. Serves initiative. 🌟 As part of this initiative, they organized a coat and hygiene drive for our Kiddos, and the results are nothing short of heartwarming. We asked two of our kiddos what Neighborhood Hope means to them, Jayvan (on the right) said, “The family in the community that I’m comfortable with out of school and away from home and it means a lot.” While Mekhi (on the left) said, “Home. Two communities, 150 meals, 50 Thanksgiving boxes of food with turkeys, and many hygiene care baskets. Thanksgiving in the Community was a huge success! We love to come together with others for the same purpose. We are absolutely thrilled to share some incredible news with you! 🌟 This weekend, we joined forces for BAD PROM 2023 and our amazing friends, including @qc_swap, @xtinaezell, @imjessayn, @your_homeloangirl_keena, @a.fink08, and @fresh_ron. Together, they set an ambitious goal and guess what? We soared past it, raising an astonishing $138,000! 🚀 Hats off to the unstoppable team at @qc_swap for orchestrating this triumph. For the past three years, we’ve been fortunate to collaborate with them for the phenomenal @badpromclt event. This year, we’re thrilled to announce that @cltfoundation has joined as an additional nonprofit recipient. November is finally here and we’re off to such a great start! We are loving the new location within the church and the kids have mentioned how much they enjoy working in the new rooms. Take a moment to check out some of the highlights from this past week. As we continue to settle into the school year, I'd like to remind everyone of the importance of this program. We have seen many students grow at least 2 grade levels since starting with us, but the academic growth is only one piece of the puzzle. Our mission is to model the love of Jesus in overlooked communities who deserve freedom from negative cycles. We partner with vulnerable neighborhoods in Charlotte, NC by earning trust, being consistent and creating a loving environment. At the beginning of the school year, these highschooler ladies started with our Options program. They got to experience skills training, career pathways, resume writing and a paid internship.
